Jazzpiano Lesson <1>

Welcome to my blog visitors!
It's very helpful to practice lines within the context of a harmonic progression, especially within the context of modern jazz, to practice lines.

On each four-note group, I use right-hand fingers 1 2 3 5(ascending)and 5 3 2 1(descending), whether the starting key is white or black.

Seran - Her First Story

Gospel album

Seran - Her First Story

‘Seran First’ was produced by Seran Oh who recently graduated of Jazz Studies at Dong Duk University and is an active musical minister at San So Mang Church (Pastor Won Hee Park) at Do Bong Gu, Shin Chang Dong, in Seoul, Korea. She composed the music and wrote the lyrics to every track of this Contemporary Christian Music (CCM) gospel album. It was meaningful for her to be part of the producing process since the album is a heart-felt work that represents her religious experience: praising and expression of grace and love she has felt from god and her own gospel through music making.

CCM’s Review on the Album

Seran Oh’s debut album, ‘Seran First’ is a compilation of several artists including Seran Oh (Composer and Producer), 5 vocalists who are either students of Seran Oh or artists of her record company, and Gil Lee who is renowned in the world of Musical took part in editing. The overall message of the album is gospel and ministry with a modern feel or sensitively melodic in the sound that is unique to the style of the artist.

Their philosophy of gospel music emphasizes on two characteristics; one is that people should be at ease as they listen to the music, and the other is that people should relate easily to the music. With breath-taking melodies and lyrics, they take the listeners to a journey that enables them to experience the love of Christ gracefully through the sound of music. Every song of the album has its own color, and the album’s mixture in its genre for each track provides most listeners enjoyment and the CCM’s chorus adds fullness. 5 vocalists who are either students of Seran Oh or artists of her record company, and Gil Lee who is renowned in the world of Musical took part in editing. Biography

As a child, I was always fascinated by gospel music, and by the time I was a high school student, I became a member of a Christian Contemporary Music(CCM) band. As I had the opportunity to perform in various churches with the CCM band, I wanted further study music in depth, particularly Jazz piano. I went to the Dong Duk Women’s University majoring in Jazz Studies, and there I became aware of many different genres of music that I could apply to my piano playing. I continued to perform with CCM band throughout college, and
seeing the listeners and the audience relate to my performance fulfilled me. By the time I graduated college, I had had diverse experience as a performer. I moved forward to be a composer, and I also participated in the making of an album. I served as a producer and a composer during the recording process. As a result, I learned MIDI arrangement and chorus arrangement skills. In 2007, I moved to New York from Korea in order to experience a larger musical life. I am currently working on a Masters Degree in Jazz Studies at NYU, and I am enjoying many opportunities to work with jazz musicians from all over the world. I recorded my own compositions here in New York, and I am getting further interested in developing myself as a jazz musician, a composer and a producer. In Korea, Jazz Big Bands are not easily available for audiences to hear. In New York, however there are numerous forms of large ensembles. I am interested in continuing to study Jazz Orchestra arranging.Personally, I have a goal of making an album in New York that I can use to apply for the prestigious Dove Award in Christian Contemporary Music. I have attended the Dove Award in Nashville, Tennessee, where I met EMI label representatives and introduced my jazz and gospel album. Through such goals, I hope to be a musician and a producer who can express my beliefs and affect the audience through my performance.
